COLLEGE COURSES (DUAL ENROLLMENT)

Hesperia Unified School District offers its high school students two avenues to complete college courses while in high school, first the College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) and second concurrent enrollment outside of CCAP. Please see below for an overview of the options.

College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP)

California Education Code section §76004 allows community colleges to enter into a College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) partnership with the governing board of a school district for the purpose of offering or expanding dual enrollment opportunities with the goal of developing seamless pathways from high school to community college. Hesperia Unified School District entered such partnership with Victor Valley College (VVC) to offer this opportunity to HUSD high school students through programs such as Early College Academy (ECA) and General Dual Enrollment (DE). Both ECA and DE courses are taught by VVC faculty and are official college courses. The CCAP programs ECA and DE provide access to high school students to participate in post-secondary education opportunities free of charge while reducing future college costs for students and families.

Early College Academy (ECA): ECA is an innovative way for high school students to get a head start on their college education by taking college classes during the regular school day. The college courses are offered to both 11th and 12th grade students in a cohort model wherein students can earn credit that may be applied toward earning an AA/AS degree at VVC or be transferred to a university. Students who successfully complete a ECA course are awarded both college credit and high school credit. ECA courses are offered on the high school campus and are restricted to high school students. This program is free to each participating student meaning students will not pay for college textbooks or VVC tuition. Please contact your counselor for more information.

General Dual Enrollment (DE): DE is an innovative way for high school students to get a head start on their college education by taking college classes while in high school. The college courses are offered to high school students outside of the cohort model wherein students can earn credit that may be applied toward earning an AA/AS degree at VVC or be transferred to a university. Students who successfully complete a DE course are awarded both college credit and high school credit. For example, VVC’s ENGL 101 is equivalent to HUSD’s English IV. DE courses are offered on the high school campus and are restricted to high school students. This program is free to each participating student meaning students will not pay for college textbooks or VVC tuition. Please contact your counselor for more information.

CCAP students are limited to 15 units or 4 courses for the Fall or Spring semester.

Concurrent Enrollment also referred to as Non-CCAP

Concurrent Enrollment is where upon the high school Principal or designee approval a student enrolls in a college course at a college or satellite campus. Through this model the student will be required to pay all college fees for example (the Student Center Fee, transportation Fee, books and supplies, etc.). Upon successful completion a college course both college credit and high school credit may be awarded. Please contact your counselor for more information.

Non-CCAP students are limited to 11.5 units for Fall or Spring semesters and 8 units for Summer/Winter semesters.
